College of Arts & Sciences Grants and Scholarships

Thank you for your interest in the College of Arts and Sciences Deans' Scholarships and Small Research and Travel Grants. These scholarship and grant opportunities are available to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences. Admitted students, please look to Student Financial Services and the UVa Alumni Association for scholarships and other financial aid.

 

Small Research and Travel Grants

 

APPLICATIONS FOR THE CURRENT CYCLE OF SMALL RESEARCH AND TRAVEL GRANTS ARE DUE ON May 15, 2014 BY 4:30 PM.

Small Research and Travel Grants are for students conducting research, engaging in artistic activities, or presenting their own research at professional conferences. Students must be in Good Academic Standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.000. The amount of these awards vary each cycle, but are typically capped at $1,500. Grant proposals are accepted on a rolling basis with deadlines in March, May, and November.

  • Apply using the Small Research and Travel Grant Application. Detailed instructions for completing and submitting the application are within the application document.
  • Every grant application must include an itemized budget. Please use the CLAS Grant Budget Template to create your budget.
  • The deadline for the current cycle of Small Research and Travel Grants is May 15,2014 at 4:30 pm.

Deans’ Scholarships

The College of Arts & Sciences Deans’ Scholarships are awarded only in Spring/Summer.

For 2014, applications are due on MARCH 15 BY 4:30 PM unless otherwise noted in the chart below.

  • You may apply for more than one scholarship using the same application.

Applicant should describe, in 3-4 pages, how his or her mind has developed during these first few months at the University as well what the implications of these developments are for future academic work. Mention may be made of course work, but also of experiences outside of class and of contributions made to University life. Financal need may be described, but will be used as a criterion only in cases of a virtual tie based on other criteria.
2.A letter of recommendation from a professor or teaching assistant of the first or second semester. It may not be from a dean or staff member. The letter may be based on a personal interview or performance in a class and should reflect the instructor's judgement of the Scholar in a small class or discussion section.
