The goal of advising is to provide students information to take full advantage of all the resources of the University (including course selection, declaring a major and general academic questions). Your Association Dean is a key source of help.

To facilitate academic advising, every student is placed in an “Association.” Your Association Dean’s primary responsibility is to advise you on academic matters and refer you to the various agencies and offices the University has established to assist you.

Walk-In Advising with the “Dean of the Day”

Beginning with the first day of classes "Dean of the Day" (walk-in advising) hours will be from 2:30-4:00 each day in Monroe Hall.

Summer Language Institute

The UVa Summer Language Institute aspires to be a model in rapid language acquisition, enabling students who are new to the study of French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish and Tibetan to master the equivalent of two academic years of the language in one summer. This satisfies the language requirement at UVa. The SLI also offers intensive instruction in Arabic and Chinese to both absolute and advanced beginners.
